A recent collision resulted in the replacement of a mobility vehicle that serves local communities.
Stonewall Area Mobility Service (SAMS) provides accessible, reliable transportation for residents in Stonewall and the surrounding municipalities. It helps individuals — particularly seniors and people with mobility challenges —travel to medical appointments, community services, shopping and social activities.
On July 7, a SAMS van was involved in a collision in Winnipeg on Wilkes Avenue.
The SAMS coordinator said the incident happened when a westbound vehicle entered the left turning lane and continued through the intersection without stopping, striking the eastbound SAMS van.
“Fortunately, no passengers or staff were severely injured,” she said. “Both were checked at the scene.”
SAMS operations experienced a short-term impact since the vehicle was taken out of service. The organization worked to minimize disruption by adjusting schedules and using available vehicles until a replacement was secured.
Manitoba Public Insurance wrote off the vehicle and offered $14,246.71 plus tax for the damaged 2008 Chevy Uplander cargo van. The Town of Stonewall has now replaced the damaged vehicle so that SAMS service can continue as usual.
