There was lots of laughter and fun last Wednesday at the Morden Family Resource Centre.
The organization that operates out of space in the Morden Alliance Church hosted an I Love To Read Month Valentine’s Day party for the families that take part in their programming for preschoolers.
“We just wanted something fun to celebrate I Love To Read Month as well as Valentine’s Day,” said executive director Jen Froese.
“We’ve got some sensory bins, some Play-doh and lots of things to do,” she noted during a brief break in the festivities. “We’ve got cookie decorating, a couple different crafts, as well as some guest readers. We’ve got the mayor of Morden Nancy Penner and Sgt. Scott Edwards of the Morden Police Service for storytime.”
Froese was pleased to see such a strong turnout for the morning of special activities.
“It’s awesome. We like to see all of the kids and families here together to celebrate with us.”
Froese also noted it plays an important role, as the centre likes to help promote early literacy.
“Since most of our preschool kids can’t read yet, we work on things like recognizing letters, spelling their names, and letter sounds,” she said. “We had letter hopscotch and puzzles as well as stamps for the kids to stamp their names in Play-doh.”
