The Capital Region Junior Hockey League is set to expand for the 2026–27 season, with the Altona Maroons receiving provisional acceptance into the Junior B circuit.
League officials confirmed the milestone this week, noting that formal ratification is expected to take place at the CRJHL’s annual general meeting this spring. The announcement signals that the Maroons are on track to return high-calibre Junior B hockey to Altona beginning next season.
Provisional acceptance allows the organization to move forward with league planning, including roster development, scheduling and operational preparations, while final approval is completed through the league’s governance process.
The CRJHL continues to feature a competitive lineup of Manitoba-based teams this season. Beausejour currently leads the standings with 42 points through 17 games, followed by Selkirk with 34 points in 17 outings. St. Malo sits close behind with 33 points in 15 games, while La Broquerie has 31 points after 17 games. Lundar has earned 20 points in 19 games, with North Winnipeg and Arborg each sitting at 10 points through 17 and 18 games respectively.
The addition of Altona will strengthen the CRJHL’s geographic footprint and further enhance opportunities for players to compete at the Junior B level, while providing communities with high-level hockey close to home.
More details on the Maroons’ entry, including home venue information and the team’s inaugural CRJHL schedule, are expected following formal league approval in the spring.
