ATB Services storms to gold at U17 A provincials

Date:

ATB Services capped off a dominant weekend with a resounding 17–3 win over Virden to claim gold at the 2025 U17 A Female Softball Manitoba Provincial Championships on Sunday.

Held at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach, the tournament featured 17 teams competing across four pools, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to Sunday’s single-elimination playoff bracket.

ATB Services rolled through Pool C with wins over Macdonald Storm (13–1), Northwest (9–1), and Neepawa (5–2). In the playoffs, they blanked Stonewall 12–0 in the quarter-finals, overpowered Carman 13–3 in the semifinal, and exploded offensively in the gold medal game to defeat Virden 17–3.

Virden advanced to the final after a 6–1 upset of Pool A winner Hamiota and a 7–3 semifinal win over Northwest.

Carman Cardinals capped off a stellar weekend by claiming bronze. The Cardinals went 3–0 in Pool D with victories over Warren (15–2), Virden (6–3), and BV Flash White (10–5). They edged Blumenort 7–6 in the quarter-finals before falling to ATB Services in the semis. Carman then rebounded with a 7–5 win over Northwest Navy to take third place.

The Golden Glove award was presented to Brielle Thiessen of Winkler, who played for the Morden Mudhens. Thiessen delivered defensively and at the plate, batting .545 across four games with six hits, six runs scored, and six RBIs. She added a triple and reached base in seven of her 12 plate appearances, posting a 1.311 on-base percentage plus slugging percentage.

The Morden Mudhens narrowly missed the playoffs despite finishing 3–1 in Pool A with wins over BV Flash Green, Riverview, and Blumenort. Their only loss came to Hamiota, and a run-differential tiebreaker left them third in their pool behind Hamiota and BV Flash Green.

The high-scoring final wrapped up a weekend of standout pitching, sharp defence, and powerful bats as Manitoba’s top U17 female softball athletes battled under summer skies.
