Beavers honour top players at annual tournament

Date:

The Carman Beavers hit the links Friday for their third annual golf tournament and team windup, bringing together current players, alumni and community supporters for a day of friendly competition and celebration.

Held at the Carman Golf Course, the event drew approximately 80 golfers and featured on-course contests including long drive, closest to the pin, and a $10,000 hole-in-one challenge. The Texas scramble format and post-game supper made for a relaxed and social atmosphere—one that doubled as the team’s year-end celebration.

Prior to the tournament, the senior hockey club presented its 2023–24 team awards.

Tyler Park earned both MVP and Top Defenceman honours, while Marcus Sekundiak took home the Top Scorer award and shared Rookie of the Year with Liam Schioler. Fraser Mirlees received the Sportsmanship Award, Olliver Lotscher was named Most Improved Player, and the Coaches Award was presented to AJ and Dan Nychuk.

Funds raised from the tournament will go toward team operations, including ice time, travel and equipment.

“It takes a substantial community effort to provide an opportunity for local players to play competitive hockey,” said team president Lorne Zacharias.. “We’re grateful for the support we continue to receive each year and we appreciate volunteers like Mark and Rex Klassen who organized the event”.

This past season, the Beavers came close to making the playoffs. With a young core and strong team culture, the club is planning for some change in leadership, but still looking ahead to another competitive year on the ice.
