After two years of planning and fundraising, the Balmoral Community Hall board of directors is celebrating the installation of new front entryway doors — a significant improvement for the nearly century-old building. Upgrades to the entryway landings and stairs are also nearing completion.
The project, valued at approximately $30,000, enhances both the appearance and safety of the facility. Like many rural community halls, Balmoral operates without core government funding, relying on grants, private donations, fundraising initiatives and hall rental revenue to complete major upgrades.
Board member and community volunteer Doug Carter said the work represents an important step forward for the facility, noting that large capital projects require time, planning and wide community support to bring to completion. The board is pleased to see the entry project finished and grateful to the partners and residents who helped make it possible.
The Balmoral Hall offers two spacious levels, a stage and a commercial kitchen — features that make it a versatile gathering place for community events, meetings and celebrations. As the facility approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027, board members say most of the primary maintenance and structural priorities have now been addressed.
Two major projects remain: refinishing the hardwood floor in the main hall and replacing the exterior signage removed during re-siding several years ago. The board is optimistic both could be completed in 2026.
The board extended thanks to the RM of Rockwood and the Interlake Community Foundation for essential support on this and previous upgrades, and acknowledged the many local businesses and residents who continue to contribute to fundraising efforts and hall initiatives.
Happiest of holiday seasons to all from the Balmoral Community Hall.
