Lundar split pair ahead of bye week despite noble efforts

Date:

The Lundar Falcons will head into their off-week on a positive note after splitting a pair of Capital Region Junior Hockey League games last week.

The Falcons opened with their second win of the season, a 4–3 overtime victory Tuesday over the North Winnipeg Satelites.

The teams were scoreless through 20 minutes at Billy Mosienko Arena before the Satelites struck on the power play early in the second. Short-handed soon after, the Falcons replied when Ty Sadowski found the back of the net.

North Winnipeg carried a 2–1 lead into the third, but Braeden Lukas tied it less than a minute into the period. The Satelites regained the lead shortly after, only for Liam Russell to even things again with less than two minutes left in regulation.

Russell’s late marker set up Lukas’ overtime winner — his second goal of the night — as Lundar skated away with the 4–3 win and two points. Goaltender Dylan Leclair earned his first victory of the season with a 44-save performance.

The Falcons returned home Sunday afternoon, where they fell 4–3 in overtime to the Arborg Ice Dawgs. The teams traded goals throughout the game, with Arborg never trailing.

Falcons goals came from Taylor Paupanekis, Cristiano Almeida and Gavin Miller, knotting the score 3–3 after regulation. But the Ice Dawgs’ Eastyn Bochurka netted the overtime winner — Arborg’s first win of the season — while Lundar settled for a single point.

The Falcons now sit fourth in the CRJHL standings with an 0-3-0-2-1 record through six games. They’ll have a week off before returning to action Friday, Oct. 24, for a rematch against the Ice Dawgs.

Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. at the Arborg & District Arena.
