PC caucus announces new leadership structure

Date:

The Official Opposition of Manitoba announced its new leadership structure last week, following the appointment of Wayne Ewasko as its interim Leader.

Kathleen Cook, who has a long history as a business and community advocate, will assume the role of Deputy Leader for Winnipeg and other urban areas. She was initially elected to the Manitoba Legislature in 2023.

Kelvin Goertzen, who was first elected in 2003, will continue to serve as Deputy Leader for rural Manitoba. Prior to this role, he held positions such as Premier, Attorney General, and various other cabinet positions within the former PC government.

Greg Nesbitt has been appointed as Caucus Chair, having previously held the position of Minister of Natural Resources and Northern Development. He has been an MLA since 2016.

Doyle Piwniuk, who was first elected in 2014, will now assume the role of Caucus Whip. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served as both the Minister for Transportation and Infrastructure, as well as Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.

Interlake-Gimli MLA Derek Johnson remains Opposition House Leader.

“The NDP are already showing their willingness to break their word, and cut things like schools and personal care homes to pay for their $3 billion worth of election promises,” said Ewasko. “This reinvigorated team will ensure that the NDP is held to account, and make sure that all Manitobans have their voices heard in the Legislature.”
