WCF celebrates donors, students and community development

The Westshore Community Foundation (WCF) paid tribute to its supporters and funding recipients at its 19th Annual Donor Appreciation and Bursary Awards Night at the Gimli Lakeview Resort on Oct. 3.

WCF is a charitable organization that provides investment income in the form of grants to projects hosted by not-for-profit groups in WCF’s catchment area along the west shore of Lake Winnipeg, including Riverton, Gimli, Fraserwood, Winnipeg Beach and Dunnottar. The funding allows communities to support the health, well-being and enhanced quality of life for their residents. 

WCF also distributes bursaries and scholarships to support the educational pursuits of students in its catchment area.

WCF distributed $52,983 to 30 students in 2025. They are as follows: Rebekah Aspen, Mitchell Baker, Vira Balaban, Ava Berthaudin, Rhianne Clarke, Fawn Collins, Dominique Chudd, Keira Erlendson, Abby Frost, Erin Furgala, Katarina Gallo, Alyssa Gard, Jahna Hardy, Kyra Humniski, Keenan Karish, Avery Kornelsen, Haden Magnusson, Morgan Meadows, Zack Meadows, Ava Michaluk, Elisee Moore, Darci Mowatt, Dallas Nedotiafko, Amber Peterson, Lilah Pinsent, Leif Robak, Callie Sylvester, Presley Tarnowski, Trent Toderan and Amaris Toews.

WCF granted $103,135 to 28 community organizations in 2025. They are as follows: Gimli wetland initiative project ($16,740); Gimli Children’s Centre exterior building upgrades ($11,000); Betel Heritage Foundation’s Gimli Hus Assisted Living for seniors ($10,000); Gimli Fire & Rescue grass fire and hazmat trailer ($7,000); New Iceland Heritage Museum centennial celebrations ($4,860); Camp Arnes pool restoration ($4,500); Betel Heritage Foundation Johnson Hall projector replacement ($4,500); Gimli Glider Exhibit cockpit return, restoration and installation at a commemorative park ($4,500); Minerva Ladies Aid wheelchair accessible washroom addition ($4,200); Evergreen Basic Needs shelving for storage and task tables, shelving for food bank ($3,600); Sleep in Heavenly Peace trailer for bed delivery ($3,000); Gimli Barvinok Dance Club Ukrainian dance costumes ($2,800); Interlake Eastern Health Foundation Bladder Scanner Purchase ($2,700); Fraserwood Hall Community play structure $2500; Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium Namao 50th birthday and open house ($2,500); Riverton-Bifrost Parks & Recreation baseball diamonds and field beautification ($2,250); Matlock Recreation Club community caregiver program ($2,100); Riverton Cemetery parking and bridge accessibility ($2,100); Gimli New Horizons 55+ Centre chair replacements ($1,800); Interlake Women’s Resource Centre cultural healing and self-care project ($1,750); Sandy Hook Pier improvement of accessibility ($1,500); Gimli International Film Festival world environmental screening day ($1,440); Betel Home Foundation accessible shower chair ($1,400); RM of Gimli- Recreation and Leisure department Musical Theatre Summer Camp ($1,400); Gimli International Film Festival pa system ($1,005); Gimli Ice Festival 15th Anniversary video presentation ($750); Meleb Park Cumming School Reunion Committee washroom accessibility ramp ($490); and Culture Days Nuit Blanche ($250).
