Calving season begins

Date:

Evan Palmer and his dad Mike Palmer are in the midst of calving season at Dorsey Road Cattle Ranch south of Grosse Isle. The family-run cow-calf operation includes 76 black and red angus cows and heifers, with 53 cows expected to calve this year and 18 calves already on the ground. Pictured, Evan Palmer holds a heifer calf born March 25, while his girlfriend Laura Brad, who grew up on a dairy farm west of Woodlands, holds a heifer calf born April 3 to a Jersey-cross heifer the couple bottle-fed last year.
