Roland School spreads kindness in the community

Date:

Roland School celebrated Pink Shirt Day, an annual event to raise awareness about bullying on Feb. 28.

“We started the day with some announcements about how Pink Shirt Day came to be,” said Roland School principal Melissa Benner. “Classrooms had their own discussions on it, and we emphasized the importance of showing kindness to everyone, celebrating each other, and lifting one another up.”

The school did a house group activity where all students created a door hanger. Then, in the afternoon, students bundled up and headed door to door in Roland, hanging the door hangers they made on front doors to bring smiles to residents’ faces.

“We only made it to the streets closest to the school, but we will be doing this again in the spring when the temperatures warm up a little,” said Benner. “It was a heartwarming activity of spreading kindness in our community, and the smiles on students faces while they carried out this act of kindness was catching on.”
