SRFA to host second annual Backdrafts ‘N Brews event

Date:

Things are heating up for the second annual Back Drafts ‘N Brews fundraiser hosted by the Stonewall Rockwood Firefighters Association.

The much-anticipated event will take place on May 30 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Stonewall Legion (459 Main St.).

Firefighter Jesse Harrisko said last year was the first time they ran the event and it was a complete success.

“We heard nothing but positive comments from all of the patrons coming through the door so we just kept getting asked when the next one would be,” he said.

“This time, we’ve got 22 different vendors from across Manitoba coming out. They’ll be sharing with us a number of their new craft beers and seltzers.”

Attendees will be provided with a mini beer mug to sip all the different brews.

“You can do all the sampling you want at all the different tables and see if there’s something you like,” he said.

“You’re going to get to try all the different featured brews that our local providers are providing right now. The majority of them are local Manitoba brands, and we have some bigger name companies featuring some of their new products.”

The event will also feature music from a DJ, as well as a silent auction and food available for purchase.

“Proceeds will go to the Stonewall Rockwood Firefighters Association as well as a number of charities throughout Stonewall,” he said, adding that they’re looking to create a scholarship for College Stonewall Collegiate.

Last year’s event raised more than $8,000, which included a $5,000 to South West District Palliative Care.

For those planning to attend the event, Harrisko offers some simple advice: Come thirsty.

“It’s a great opportunity to try different products. It’s a great advertisement for the vendors and it’s a great fundraiser for us,” he said. “It’s a real great time.”

Tickets cost $40 each and are available through any firefighter. Alternatively, you can reach out to through Stonewall Rockwood Fire Department’s Facebook page for tickets.
