École Carman Elementary hosts winter concert

École Carman Elementary School filled the season with music during its winter concert held Dec. 10, featuring performances by students from several grades and programs.

The evening opened with the school’s Handbell Club, directed by teachers Shari Zacharias, Shauna Wolfe and Julie Fehr. The group set a festive tone with a performance of Jingle Bells.

Music teacher Paul Cwir then led the Grade 3–5 French Immersion students through a series of musical selections, showcasing both their developing musicianship and enthusiasm for performing.

The concert concluded with performances by the Grade 3–5 English program students, under the direction of music teacher Myrna Klassen, with accompaniment by Lorraine Bruce. The students presented several original pieces, shared what they have learned about music, and delighted the audience with an energetic rendition of the Bird Dance.

One highlight of the evening was The Mayor of Treble Town, which entertained while teaching the audience about the notes of the treble staff, with each note proudly showcased by the students.

Music at École Carman Elementary will continue beyond the school gymnasium this month. Klassen will take Grades 1 and 2 students to Riverview Apartment Complex to perform for residents on Dec. 16, followed by performances by kindergarten to Grade 2 students at Boyne Lodge on Dec. 18.
