The U12A Interlake Ignite skated to the top of the podium earlier this month, winning gold at the Mid Canada Ringette Tournament held Dec. 5–7 at the Hockey for All Centre in Winnipeg.
Ignite opened strong on Friday, cruising to an 8–2 win over the Macdonald Wildfire before falling 4–2 in a hard-fought matchup with the BVRA Blaze. The team rebounded Saturday morning with a 7–3 victory over Southwest Ringette’s Fury, securing a spot in the 2nd vs. 3rd place semifinal.
In the afternoon rematch, goaltender Declan Bush turned away every shot to earn the shutout in a dominant 7–0 win, punching Ignite’s ticket to the gold medal final.
Sunday’s championship game brought a familiar opponent as Ignite once again faced the BVRA Blaze. Blaze opened the scoring, but Interlake answered quickly, and the teams traded goals through a fast-paced back-and-forth battle. Ignite ultimately pulled ahead, sealing a 5–4 win to claim the tournament title.
Interlake Ignite U12A is an amalgamated roster featuring players from Stonewall, Selkirk and St. Andrews, along with skaters from the Northwest and River East Ringette Associations.
