Lord Selkirk Royals edged in pair of close losses

Date:

The Lord Selkirk Royals dropped a pair of one-goal games last week and sit ninth in the Platinum Promotions Division with an 8–13 record in Winnipeg High School Hockey League play.

Lord Selkirk opened the week with a 3–1 home loss to River East Kodiaks on Jan. 26. The visitors scored twice in the opening period and carried the lead into the third. Erik Evason pulled the Royals within one with a late goal, but River East sealed the win with an empty-net marker in the final minute.

The Royals were back on the road Jan. 30, where they were edged 3–2 by Collège Jeanne-Sauvé Olympiens. Evason opened the scoring on the power play in the first period, and Kageon Carver added a second-period goal as the teams went into the third period tied. CJS struck early in the final frame for the game-winner, holding on despite Selkirk pressure late.

Lord Selkirk returns to the road this week, visiting Westwood Warriors on Feb. 4 at 4:15 p.m., followed by a matchup against Sturgeon Heights Huskies on Feb. 5 with a 4 p.m. puck drop.

Girls idle, return to action Feb. 9

The Selkirk Royals did not see game action last week and remain idle again this week in Manitoba Women’s High School Hockey League play.

Selkirk currently sits 11th in the East Division with a 3–17 record and is scheduled to return to action on Feb. 9, hosting CSLR Raiders at home with a 3:45 p.m. puck drop.
