Festival of Wreaths voting now open at Stonewall Library

Date:

The South Interlake Regional Library–Stonewall Branch is celebrating a community tradition once again as it launches the 16th annual Festival of Wreaths, running now until Friday, Dec. 19.

The library hopes to top last year’s 31 entries, and library assistant Tara Glaspey said staff are eager to see what the community creates.

“We invite everybody to come swing by and vote for your favourite wreath. We have a ton of unique entries on display, and it’s not something you’re going to want to miss,” Glaspey said.

The fundraiser follows a simple model — every dollar donated equals one vote. All proceeds go directly to the Stonewall & District Christmas Cheer Board, supporting local families during the holiday season. Voters can cast a single vote or hundreds during the library’s operating hours. There is no limit as long as donations are made.

Each wreath is clearly numbered, and once visitors decide on their favourite — or favourites — they can head to the circulation desk to record their votes and submit their cash or cheque donation. Tax receipts are available upon request for contributions over $20.

Glaspey said the event has become a highlight for both staff and community members.

“The staff here are just exemplary community members who want to give back and bring in some extra creativity to the library,” she said. “Since the first year, everyone latched on to this celebration and it has just kept getting better and better.”

Voting closes early on Dec. 19, a few hours before the library hosts its awards and cheque-presentation open house at 2 p.m. The top three wreaths will be announced and awarded certificates — along with community bragging rights — before the library presents its fundraising total to the Christmas Cheer Board.

Glaspey hopes residents will continue to support the long-running holiday event.

“We want everybody to come in, take in the festive spirit and vote for their favourite wreath,” she said. “Drop a loonie and know you’re supporting a great cause.”
