Ice & Iron Classic draws 20 teams for first annual event

Date:

Twenty teams blended golf swings and curling shots at the first annual Ice & Iron Classic, held Friday and Saturday at the 19th Hole golf simulator and the Argyle curling rink.

Teams of four played 18 holes of scramble-format golf on the simulator and hit the ice for two six-end games under a skins format that kept the competition tight from start to finish.

The event opened Friday evening and wrapped up Saturday with a beef brisket dinner and entertainment by Stonewall’s Burned Stone band.

Team Turney, Kevin Turney, Jared Turney, Jordan Turney and Brent Elliason, captured the overall title with 81 points. The team led by Riley Buchanan — with Carter Ives, Jace Guilford, Auston Storey and Logan Storey — finished second with 78 points, while Matthieu Meier’s foursome of Rhett Woods, Cole Emberley and Kobe Davies placed third with 76 points.

The “most honest team” distinction went to Dave Ives and the crew from Enns Brothers. Organizers say the inaugural Ice & Iron Classic will return next year after the strong turnout and enthusiastic feedback from participants.
