Local musician rocks Centennial Concert Hall

Date:

A local musician rocked the Centennial Concert Hall with his band Ikons of Rock last week.

Lifelong musician Darren Moore is originally from Stonewall and now lives in Las Vegas, where his band is about to embark on a year-long residency at Hard Rock Café Las Vegas Strip. Prior to the start of their residency in January 2026, the band is touring Canada with 44 shows from Victoria to Toronto.

On Monday, Sept. 29, Ikons of Rock took the stage at the Centennial Concert Hall in Winnipeg, where they dazzled the crowd with their impersonations of rock icons. They started off in full costume as Fleetwood Mac, followed by the Eagles, Cher, Def Leppard, Journey, Heart, Kiss, Joan Jett, Motley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne and more.

Although the band still performs with the name Snake Oil in select locations, the group is now calling itself Ikons of Rock.

The Tribune recently ran a contest offering two free tickets to the Winnipeg concert plus a shirt from the merchandise table — and the response was off the charts.

The randomly chosen winner was Kerry Hannah of MacGregor, who happens to be a related to Moore but hadn’t seen him for years. Hannah, whose favourite rock icon is Ozzy Osbourne, attended the concert with her husband Eddy.

“It was an excellent performance, as always. My husband and I had a fantastic time,” she said.

“Our favourite part of the concert was enjoying all the amazing talent and stage performance by all musicians. It’s always very entertaining, a great memory. I look forward to each and every performance. It never gets old — love it! It was also great to see Darren and meet his wife, Valerie.”

And for Moore, the experience was a much-anticipated homecoming halfway through the Canadian tour. The entire band is from Manitoba except for one new recruit from Las Vegas.

“It’s always good to come home and touch base periodically. I never know who I’m going to run into at the performances. This time I saw some classmates from SCI, which is always fun. I remember our graduating class had a tight bond all the way through school,” Moore said.

“I’m hoping to see some Manitobans at our Ikons of Rock Las Vegas residency next year or our Ikons of Rock Cruise. Yes, the Canadians are dominating Vegas!”
