There are a lot of great U13 AAA softball players in the province.
But the very best lives right here in the Interlake.
Marquette’s Jersey MacMillan was named Softball Manitoba’s U13 AAA player of the year.
That’s extremely impressive.
“I’m so ecstatic. I was speechless when I found out,” said MacMillan. “Softball Manitoba sent an email out and there will be an awards banquet on (Nov. 25). I was very excited…and so surprised when I found out.”
MacMillan really enjoys playing against elite competition at the AAA level.
“There are so many amazing athletes on all of the teams,” she said.
MacMillan, a first-time catcher this season who also plays third base, had a great summer along with her Phillies’ team. She noted that their squad placed fourth at provincials and did very well in tournaments.
There was a lot of talent on this past season’s team.
“It was a very good team this year,” MacMillan said.
The 13 year old played three seasons at the U13 AAA level and has improved tremendously over those years. She has been very lucky to have had some great coaches – and teammates – to help her get to this elite level.
MacMillan will be playing at the U15 AAA level for Interlake next season.
“I’m really looking forward to playing for the Phillies again this year and we have (the potential of playing) at nationals and westerns,” said MacMillan, who is a talented multi-sport athlete. “It’s great playing for the Phillies…and I want to thank everyone who has helped me along the way – coaches, teammates, family, parents, grandparents. My teacher this year has (also) been a great help.”
