Phillies U13 go 4–0 with dominant weekend sweep

Date:

The Interlake Phillies U13 softball team delivered a dominant performance over the weekend, winning four straight games in back-to-back doubleheaders against Westman Magic and the Manitoba Angels.

Interlake opened Saturday with a 9–0 shutout of Westman Magic, breaking the game open with a six-run fourth inning. Brooklyn Chetyrbok tripled to bring in two runs, while Krystal Campton added an RBI single. Kardyn Reimer and Devynn VanHussen drove in the team’s first two runs in the opening frame. Reimer earned the win in the circle, striking out seven and allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings. Campton tossed two clean innings in relief, striking out two. Chetyrbok and Campton each collected two hits, while Kahlie Minnie walked twice, stole two bases and recorded a game-high seven defensive plays. The Phillies drew seven walks and did not commit an error.

They followed up with a 4–2 victory in Game 2. Campton and Reimer knocked in runs in the first inning, while Eden Baker singled in the go-ahead run in the second. Reimer struck out eight over three innings before Campton came on in relief to pitch three hitless innings and pick up the win.

On Sunday, the Phillies continued their roll with a 9–0 win over the Manitoba Angels. Peyton Ballantyne went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Adree Williams drove in two runs with a first-inning single, while Minnie doubled in another in the third. Campton earned the win with two hitless innings, and Reimer and Chetyrbok each threw scoreless frames to complete the shutout. Minnie and Ballantyne both finished with three hits, and Campton added two more.

The weekend wrapped up with an 11–4 win, led by Minnie’s four-RBI performance. She hit a triple in the first and followed it with an inside-the-park home run in the third that scored three. Williams added two RBIs in the third as the Phillies pulled away. Reimer picked up the win, allowing just one hit and striking out seven over three shutout innings. Campton closed the game with another scoreless inning of relief. At the plate, Campton went 3-for-3, and Williams was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Interlake collected 11 hits and again played error-free defence.

The Phillies U13 are back at home next Sunday to take on the Eastman Wildcats.

Interlake Phillies overpower Manitoba Angels in U17 matchup

The Interlake Phillies U17 softball team opened their week with a solid 12–5 win over the Manitoba Angels 17U, but couldn’t carry that momentum into the weekend, dropping both games of a Saturday doubleheader to Central Energy U17.

In Wednesday’s win over the Angels, the Phillies broke open a tight game with a five-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Avery Deprez. The teams had traded runs early, including RBIs from Peyton Rinn and Jenna Germain in the first, and a steal of home by Addy Whitely that tied the game at 4–4 in the top of the third.

Kassie Siwak’s RBI single gave Interlake the lead, and Deprez followed with a blast to centre field to make it 8–4. The Phillies added four more runs across the fourth and fifth innings to put the game out of reach.

Rinn started in the circle, allowing four runs on seven hits over three innings. Siwak took over in the fourth. Interlake collected 11 hits, led by Deprez’s 3-for-4 performance. The team also showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks. Germain and Taylor Henderson each walked twice.

Brooklyn Milloy had two hits for the Angels, while Whitely stole two bases and scored once.

The Phillies returned to the diamond Saturday but were outpaced by Central Energy U17, falling 7–2 in the first game and 6–3 in the second.

In Game 1, Interlake struck first on an RBI single from Germain, but Central responded with a three-run third inning, including a two-run homer from Brooklyn Friesen. Kennedy Funk added a solo shot in the fifth to widen the gap.

Henderson connected for a solo home run in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough. Riley Swanson went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases to lead the Phillies’ offence, while Olivia Hagan pitched a complete game, allowing 12 hits and seven runs — five earned.

Friesen and Taryn Toews both had three hits for Central, and Kara Buhler added three RBIs.

In Game 2, Abi Minnie provided a spark from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two singles. Interlake built a 3–1 lead in the first, helped by a Siwak RBI and a Central error.

Central tied the game in the third and pulled ahead with another home run from Friesen in the fifth. Siwak pitched all seven innings, striking out nine while allowing six runs — five earned — on 10 hits. Swanson added two more hits, while the Phillies turned two double plays defensively.

Interlake will visit the Winnipeg Lightning U17 on Sunday before hosting Central Energy for a rematch next weekend.
