An Interlake Lightning alum has become the all-time points leader for a Southern Professional Hockey League franchise.
On Friday, Jan. 9, Leif Mattson notched his 172nd point as a member of the Quad City Storm, passing Tommy Tsicos (171) for the franchise lead.
The 26-year-old from Thompson last played for Interlake during the 2013-14 season as an alternate captain with the U15 AAA squad before going on to a junior and pro career.
Since then, Mattson has found a home in the Quad Cities as one of the top scorers in the SPHL.
The milestone came when Mattson assisted on a Devin Sanders goal midway through the second period of the Storm’s 7-5 win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers on Jan. 9 at Vibrant Arena at The MARK in Moline, Ill.
Mattson finished the game with five assists, earning second-star honours.
He was later named SPHL co-player of the week alongside Sanders after posting one goal and eight assists over three games.
Mattson has since extended his lead atop the Storm’s all-time points list with 80 goals and 101 assists for 181 points in 153 games with the franchise.
He also leads the Storm in the 2025-26 season with 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points through 34 games, helping Quad City sit sixth in the SPHL with a 15-14-4-1 record.
