RCMP Emergency Response Team deployed twice in Manitoba for firearm-related arrests

The Manitoba RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) was deployed twice on Oct. 8 in separate incidents involving potential firearm threats in Portage la Prairie and Fisher River.

At approximately 6 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP obtained a warrant to enter a residence in the city to arrest a man wanted on two outstanding warrants. Because police believed the suspect was armed, the ERT was called in to assist.

After deploying tear gas, ERT officers entered the home and located the suspect inside. He resisted arrest but was subdued using a conducted energy weapon (Taser) and taken into custody without further incident.

Aaron Penman, 47, remains in custody following a court appearance. He faces two existing arrest warrants along with new charges of resisting arrest and disobeying court orders.

Later that evening, around 10 p.m., Fisher Branch RCMP attempted to arrest another man wanted on multiple warrants in Fisher River. The suspect barricaded himself inside a residence and was believed to have a firearm.

An entry warrant was obtained, and ERT officers entered the property in the early morning hours of Oct. 9.

Tyson Amos, 31, was arrested without incident and has been remanded into custody. He faces three outstanding warrants and new charges of uttering threats and resisting arrest.

Both investigations remain ongoing, with Portage la Prairie and Fisher Branch RCMP continuing to assist.
