Reviving the track at WCI — one metre at a time

Date:

Pancakes, community spirit and a drive to build something lasting came together at Warren Collegiate Institute last Sunday morning.

The school hosted a pancake breakfast in support of the WCI Track Revival Project, drawing current students, alumni and supporters from the wider community. Organizers say the event was not just about a hot meal but about rallying behind a cause that will benefit local athletes and residents for years to come.

The fundraiser was a success, with 140 metres of track purchased that morning alone — a total of $14,000. Students and alumni added to the effort by hosting a bake sale alongside the breakfast, raising more than $2,500.

“It’s amazing to see how much the community has stepped up,” said event organizer Fallon Campbell. “Every metre purchased brings us closer to providing a first-class track facility for both our athletes and recreational users.”

Even with the strong showing of support, the project is only about halfway to its fundraising goal. Organizers say continued contributions are critical to completing the new six-lane outdoor track, which will open new opportunities for training, competition and everyday recreation in the community.

Donations remain open, with each metre of the new surface available for $100. Contributions can also be made directly by contacting Campbell at fcampbell@isd21.mb.ca or 204-322-5586.
