Stonewall Karate Club dominates at annual tournament

Date:

The 26th annual Stonewall Karate Tournament was held March 7 at the Stonewall Legion, drawing competitors from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Karatekas travelled from as far away as Prince Albert, Sask., and communities throughout northern Manitoba, including Gimli, to take part in the event.

The tournament featured divisions for juniors through adults, with competitors showcasing their skills in a variety of events.

The host Stonewall Karate Club delivered a strong performance, earning the most medals overall and capturing the trophy for top dojo.

One of the standout stories of the day came from the Prystupa family, whose shared passion for karate translated into multiple podium finishes. Haley Prystupa was named Best Black Belt after winning four different events, edging out her mother, Laura Prystupa, who claimed the honour at last year’s tournament.
