A 33-year-old Stonewall resident, Ryan Cathro, was arrested Nov. 19 and charged with multiple offences following a pickup-truck theft reported two days earlier in the Rural Municipality of Springfield.
According to a news release from Oakbank RCMP, officers were called Nov. 17 after a red pickup truck was reported stolen from a business on Gunn Road. Surveillance video captured the truck leaving the property at about 12:33 p.m.
When the owner discovered his credit card was missing — the card had reportedly been left in the vehicle — police tracked use of the card to various businesses. Video from those businesses later showed a man exiting a different truck, a black Ford F-150, which was identified as stolen from Winnipeg.
On Nov. 19, Oakbank RCMP located the stolen red pickup truck parked at an arena on Almey Avenue in Oakbank. A 32-year-old female from Long Plain First Nation, found sleeping inside the vehicle, was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
Cathro was arrested that same day. He faces three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; two counts of conspiring to commit an offence; two counts of failing to appear in court; and one count of using a credit card knowing it was obtained by the commission of an offence. He was also arrested on two outstanding warrants and remains remanded in custody.
Oakbank RCMP said they appreciate the public’s assistance after previously asking for help identifying a suspect seen in the surveillance video. Oakbank RCMP continue to investigate.
