Wildcats split week, stay second in Price Division

The Warren Wildcats went 1–1 last week but remain firmly in second place in the Price Division with a 15–1 record.

Warren opened the week with a tough 4–3 overtime loss at home to West Kildonan Wolverines on Monday, Jan. 12. The Wildcats jumped out to a 2–0 first-period lead on goals from Liam Boonstra and Braeden Ivany and later added a shorthanded marker from Kaelen Ivany in the third. West Kildonan rallied late, tying the game in the final 90 seconds before Christian Shylov scored the overtime winner.

The Wildcats rebounded two nights later with a 3–2 road win over Murdoch MacKay Collegiate on Wednesday, Jan. 14. The tightly contested matchup featured frequent special-teams play, including a Murdoch MacKay double minor for head contact late in the first period. Warren held on in the third period to secure the one-goal victory and close out the week with a split.

Warren returns to action Monday, Jan. 19, hosting Pinawa at 3:15 p.m., before welcoming John Taylor on Thursday, Jan. 22, in another home matchup.

Warren girls earn road win in split week

The Warren Wildcats went 1–1 last week in Manitoba Women’s High School Hockey League West Division action and sit seventh in the division with a 6–10 record.

Warren opened the week with a 4–2 road win over the Sanford Sabres on Tuesday, Jan. 13. The Wildcats scored early and built a 2–0 lead before Sanford responded midway through the second period. Goals from Everly Sherry and Brook Waldbauer restored Warren’s two-goal cushion, while Waldbauer added her second of the game early in the third period to seal the victory. Blake Darragh finished the night with a goal and an assist.

The Wildcats were back on the road Friday, Jan. 16, but dropped a tight 2–1 decision to the Vincent Massey Collegiate Trojans. Darragh scored Warren’s lone goal in the opening period after Vincent Massey struck first. The game remained tied through a scoreless second period before the Trojans netted the winner midway through the third.

Warren returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 20, travelling to face Churchill at 4:14 p.m.
