25 years of Butterfly Golf

Date:

Summer weather returned to the Riverview golf course Sept. 7 for .Red River Valley palliative care’s 25th annual Butterfly Golf tournament.

Organizers and volunteers were excited to see 63 golfers pour into the busy clubhouse. It was also observed that ‘next’ generation golfers, following their parents who started attending in the early 2000s, were also in attendance.

Of note, if stats had been kept, golfer Claude Valcourt of Lorette would likely have the record for number of butterfly tournaments attended since 2001.

The committee is grateful to the numerous Red River Valley businesses who continue to advertise and provide prizes, making this event as successful as it is from year to year and this year raising over $16,000.

In turn, support for palliative care families, a library, Shining Lights, volunteer education, grief support as well as several other programs are made available in the area.

Many volunteers showed up to make the event as fun as possible, and thanks to generous businesses, every golfer went home a winner. The top foursome were presented with Butterfly golf towels and flower bouquets from Bloomin’ Scents. They included Brayden Reckseidler, Cohen Reckseidler, Richie Bourcier and Ronan Gueret.

Men’s longest drive was won by Cohen Reckseidler, and ladies longest drive went to Nancy Swain.  Richie Bourcier won the closest to the pin, and Terry Rempel won the putting contest. Georgie Bell won the commode chipping contest, and Allan Clayton won the ladder golf contest. Jen Ducharme had her name pulled for the ball in water contest.

Finally, the Butterfly Raffle prizes were spread amongst seven winners this year, and many thanks to all who sold tickets and donated prizes including Rempel Insurance, Morris Bigway and Morris Home Hardware. Erin Cook took home the Yeti cooler, and Rhonda Fortier, the Pit Boss BBQ. Other winners were Jalna Thurston, Marcel Brunet, Dale Hoffman, Henrietta Brunet and Merle Friesen.

The committee would like to thank the Butterfly Golf major sponsors: Calderwood’s Country Store and Access Credit Union.
