Police found unsecured firearms and open liquour during a traffic stop in Plum Coulee over the long weekend.

On Aug. 3, Altona Police officers pulled over a truck after a near collision involving a cyclist on Hwy 306 at Highway Avenue.

During the course of the traffic stop, police observed two unlocked and unsecure firearms in the vehicle within easy access of the driver and passenger.  Officers also located open liquor in vehicle.

The truck was being operated by a 16-year-old male from the Municipality of Rhineland who had a learners licence. The supervising driver, seated as a passenger in the front seat, was a 23-year-old, also from Rhineland

The youth had no alcohol on his breath, police report, however, the supervising driver blew a warning on the roadside screening device.

Manitoba law requires a supervising driver to be sober when supervising a learner driver.

Police also determined that neither the youth or the adult had a firearms licence, and neither were legally allowed to possess the guns.

Both the youth and adult were charged for possession of the firearms. They will appear in court at a later date.  Tickets were also issued in relation to the liquor related offences.
