A Celebration of Life – Eriksdale’s ROGerKimLee Music Festival

Date:

We can all look back on the cherished connections we’ve made with old and loyal friends – whether from school, sports, work, or music. However, amidst our busy lives, it can be difficult to regularly recall and share memories of a beloved friend who has passed away after a funeral.

Hence, Derrick McCandless, co-owner of Eriksdale Music & Custom Frame Shop along with his partner Dawn Mills, had a strong motivation to launch the ROGerKimLee Music Festival four years ago. The losses of three dear friends and musician comrades during the pandemic years – one in a motorbike accident, one due to complications from a car accident, and another through drug use – compelled him. Unfortunately, last year’s festival also marked the sudden passing of another musician, Bill, from cardiac arrest.

What better way to honour the abilities of these musicians than through a community festival that showcases the music and instrument skills they all cherished? Not only that, but this festival can also support and cultivate budding musicians who will carry on their legacy. For instance, Sam Menard, Roger’s stepson, has been a regular performer at RKL festivals as part of the “family” band Had It Comin’. Truly a fitting musical tribute.

Join us at the 2024 RKL Music festival from Aug. 16 to 18, as we re-locate to the Eriksdale Sports Grounds and McEwen Park,  located on Hwy 6 just a short 75-minute drive from Winnipeg’s Perimeter. Enjoy an idyllic atmosphere for camping, shopping at our Makers Market, admiring classic cars at our Show ‘n Shine ‘n Swap event, sipping on drinks in the beer garden, participating in workshops, indulging in food truck fare, and being serenaded by a diverse lineup of talented artists on an open stage beneath the vast prairie sky.
