Families will have a festive new way to kick off the holiday season later this month when Breakfast with Santa comes to the Arborg Legion #161 on Nov. 29.
The event is being organized by Legion manager Lori Reed and Legion president Ron Johnston, with help from a host of volunteers and community partners. Local businesses including the Arborg & District Christmas Cheer Board, Interlake Co-op, Arborg Home Hardware, Arborg Pharmacy, Access Credit Union, Zan’s Family Inn and Arborg Nic Nacs are contributing food supplies, materials and volunteer support.
Reed said the idea was sparked by a desire to bring the community together for a good cause at a time when the need is growing.
“It’s been a number of years since we’ve had Breakfast with Santa, and with the growing demand on the Christmas Cheer Board, we felt it was time to bring the community together to support this worthwhile cause,” she said.
The family-friendly morning will feature a hot pancake breakfast, holiday activities, and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus. For a $5 admission or a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Cheer Board, families can enjoy breakfast and take part in children’s crafts. There will also be a low-cost kids’ gift shop, where youngsters can choose a present for someone special.
Reed said the Legion was the natural venue.
“As part of the main organizers, the Legion was a natural place to host,” she said.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the 2025 Arborg & District Christmas Cheer Board Hamper Drive. Reed said the hope is that community support will allow the event to grow into an annual tradition.
“We all love Christmas and want to make sure everyone has a chance to find peace and happiness, if only for the day,” she said. “Christmas is all about sharing the love.”
Organizers say volunteers are still welcome—especially someone willing to take on the role of Santa.
“If anyone is willing to be Santa, we would love to hear from you,” Reed added.
The Breakfast with Santa event takes place Friday, Nov. 29 at the Arborg Legion. Doors open in the morning, with exact times to be shared closer to the date.
