The first week of the 2025-26 Capital Region Junior Hockey League season was full of action across the league, but perhaps no games were more exciting than the pair featuring the Lundar Falcons.
Lundar opened its campaign Friday with a high-scoring home opener against the North Winnipeg Satelites, a game that saw 13 goals combined. The Falcons, however, found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard as the Satelites’ 5-2 lead entering the third period proved too much to overcome.
Lundar pushed back with a late rally but ultimately fell 8-5. Dylan Care scored twice for the Falcons, while Gavin Miller, Ryan Benson and Tyler Van Dam also found the back of the net.
Saturday’s matchup against the La Broquerie Habs was a much tighter affair, with the teams remaining scoreless through 20 minutes at Lundar Arena. Liam Russell and Care tallied in the second period to give Lundar a one-goal cushion heading into the third.
The Habs tied the game midway through the final frame with a shorthanded marker, forcing overtime. There, Braeden Lukas played the hero, scoring the game-winner to secure the Falcons’ first victory of the season — a 3-2 decision.
Goaltender Seth Hasker earned his first win of the campaign, stopping 24 of 26 shots.
The win lifted Lundar to two points on the season and into fourth place in the CRJHL standings entering the new week. The Falcons will get a few days of rest before visiting the Beausejour Comets on Friday for their first road game of the year. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. at Beausejour Sportsplex.
Lundar will then return home Sunday to host the reigning champion St. Malo Warriors. Game time is 3 p.m. at Lundar Arena.
