Second-period struggles lead to loss in Ice Dawgs’ season opener

Date:

The Arborg Ice Dawgs will be looking for a better result this week following a loss in their season opener in Selkirk.

The Ice Dawgs entered Selkirk Recreation Complex on Sunday afternoon hoping to start the 2025-26 Capital Region Junior Hockey League season on a high note.

What was an even match through 20 minutes eventually saw the Fishermen pull ahead with a three-goal second period, while the Ice Dawgs struggled to solve Selkirk netminder Johnny Enns-Demchuk.

Neither team scored in the third, as the game ended 4-0 in favour of the Fishermen.

Arborg dropped to 0-1 with the loss, leaving them searching for their first win of the season for at least another week.

The Ice Dawgs will host their home opener Friday at Arborg & District Arena, welcoming the reigning champion St. Malo Warriors. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the Ice Dawgs will face the Beausejour Comets at 4 p.m. at a location still to be determined. Arborg will be considered the road team for that matchup. Visit the CRJHL website for updates.
