Doyle sells mahogany bedroom suites; Sperling blacksmith Chas Drayton gets hydro in his shop; Cochran’s Ltd. supplies Sheltex glasses for $5 with examination; Ford massive sale lists coupes for $610; Alf Strachan passes Grade 3 with honours; Clark’s pork and beans are 25 cents for two tins at P & B Cash Store.

75 Years ago, 1951… 17 district ball teams compete at Co-op annual picnic; Miami wins the senior event; Dorfman’s Kraft cream cheese is 60 cents/lb.; Shea’s Winnipeg Brewery offers $1,000 for the best malt barley; the first Miami Ag Fair in 20 years is held; Carman Frosted Foods has pork sides for 46 cents/lb.; porcupines are invading the area and dogs’ noses; Carman Plumbing & Heating promotes Duro water pump systems; carloads of Walhalla citizens arrive to promote their rodeo.

50 Years ago, 1976… Miami opens Rail Museum in Station House; 450 take part in the first Kinsmen Participation Two-Mile Walk; Ed Schreyer unveils Sperling’s cairn honouring early settlers at the community’s 75th anniversary; Safeway’s two-pound bucket of chicken is $3.59; Lyall McCutcheon cuts the ribbon at Homewood Co-op opening; Carman council proposes 50 per cent water rate hike; Ron Stanger elected president of Citizens Flood Committee of Carman; arena fees for figure skating and minor hockey are $4.50/hour, up from no charge, as it costs $31/hour to run the arena.

25 Years ago, 2001… Ron Nichol of Carman wins $63,031.30 in 6/49; Principal Bill Bunka enjoying last weeks before retirement; Elite Communications co-sponsors the fair fireworks; the 40 x 90 skateboard park nears completion; Curtis Lawson wins Roland Men’s Open golf tournament with a 73; Philip Fehr places third at National Motocross Championships in Regina; Darren Skelton was grad class valedictorian; ninth annual Alzheimer Walk a success, raising $32,000; Ryan Thoms organizes fair parade; Denis Le Hégarat is your lawyer at Smith Neufeld Jodoin; Grade A eggs, two dozen for $3 at D & M Fine Foods.
