Float on down to the Selkirk Biz Parade, then head to the Rodeo

Floats and volunteers welcome

You’ve seen the Selkirk Biz Parade coming by every year and filling Main St. with people who’ve come to downtown to watch, but have you ever considered getting involved yourself? You’re always welcome back as an attendee, but you could also take part more directly in the fun by entering a float or volunteering. 

“Anyone can participate. Businesses, schools, sports teams, churches, service clubs, non-profit organizations, community groups, families, and even groups of friends can create a float. The parade is a great way to showcase your organization, promote community involvement, and have fun doing it,” said Meaghan Chromy, Executive Director of the Selkirk Biz.

She explained that the parade is not just a lot of fun. For attendees, it’s a great way to learn more about local businesses and organizations, and for local businesses and community groups, it’s a great way to get their names out there in the community so that more people know about them.

“As a non-profit organization, Selkirk Biz is committed to building a strong, vibrant community. The parade provides an opportunity to bring people together, support local businesses and organizations, and create lasting memories for families. It’s all about celebrating what makes our community special,” said Chromy.

She also said that there’s nothing like being on a float and seeing hundreds of smiling faces along the parade route.

The parade takes place on July 11 at 10 a.m. 

Signing up to be part of the parade is also pretty simple, so that as many people as possible can participate. 

“Groups simply need to complete the parade registration form and provide some basic information about their float or entry. We encourage participants to register early so we can ensure a smooth and organized event,” said Chromy.

If you don’t have a large group or are not someone who’d enjoy being part of a float but still want to make sure that this event remains an annual tradition in our community for generations to come, you can also become a volunteer. 

The parade annually needs about 60 or so volunteers to make the magic happen, so anyone who has the time and ability to help is greatly appreciated. 

“Volunteers are essential to making the parade happen. As a non-profit organization, we rely on community support to safely and successfully host this event each year,” said Chromy.

Volunteers’ jobs are also less work and more fun when it comes to working the parade than you might think.

“Volunteers are stationed at street barricades along the parade route. They help keep spectators safe, guide traffic away from closed streets, and ensure the parade route remains secure while receiving VIP Seating to watch the parade. It’s a simple but very important role,” explained Chromy.
