Crazy for crokinole

Date:

Salem Home’s first annual crokinole tournament March 6 was a resounding success, raising upwards of $21,000 to purchase benches for the personal care home’s new pathway.

The Winkler care home’s Heritage Room was buzzing with excitement as 36 teams battled it out while friends and families cheered them on.

“The most important benefit of this event was that residents could participate and watch, as it happened in their home” says Karin Oliveira, Salem CEO.

The last team standing was Jake Reimer and John Friesen, who took home prize baskets for their efforts.

Players and spectators also got the chance to buy tickets for a trio of raffle prizes: a quilt handmade by Salem residents and a pair of crokinole boards crafted and donated by Abe and Nettie Penner and Tim Bergen, Tim Bergen of Timed Design Custom Woodworking.

The event was jointly hosted by the Salem Foundation and the Salem Ladies Auxiliary.
