Fishermen outmatched by CRJHL’s best, drop fifth straight

Date:

The first losing skid of the season continued last week for the Selkirk Fishermen.

The Fishermen fell 7-1 to the Beausejour Comets on Friday at Beausejour Sportsplex.

After starting the season on a nine-game win streak, the Fishermen are now 10-5-0-0-1 following this recent five-game slide that’s seen them drop out of first place in the Capital Region Junior Hockey League.

The loss Friday came against a Comets squad that is by far the hottest in the CRJHL right now, who proved that by putting a touchdown of goals on the scoreboard.

Beausejour tallied all their goals in the opening two periods to lead it by a 7-0 margin.

Ashton Schroder got the Fishermen on the board in the third with his 15th of the season which is how the scoring concluded.

Selkirk’s Johhny Enns-Demchuk and Marcus Sharpe split goaltending duties, combining for 38 saves on 45 shots.

Comets netminder Alex Cavanagh meanwhile chalked a .952 save percentage with his 20 saves, helping him nab his eighth win of the season.

For Selkirk, they will look to snap this skid before the Christmas Break with three games to play still before Dec. 25.

This Tuesday they will head into Winnipeg to take on the North Winnipeg Satelites who are currently at the bottom of the league.

They will then return home for the final homestand of 2025 with games against the La Broquerie Habs and Lundar Falcons.

Selkirk have wins over all three clubs this season.

Upcoming games:

Tuesday, Dec. 16 at North Winnipeg Satelites, 8 p.m. at Billy Mosienko Arena

Friday, Dec. 19 vs La Broquerie Habs, 7:30 p.m. at Selkirk Recreation Complex

Sunday, Dec. 21 vs Lundar Falcons, 3 p.m. at Selkirk Recreation Complex
