Memorial hockey event raises thousands for youth sport

Date:

Rachelle Schott, Scout the police dog, and Tracy Schmidt take part in a ceremonial puck drop during the sixth annual Cooper Nemeth Memorial Hockey Day at Gateway Recreation Centre on March 29.

The event, which raised $30,612 for the Cooper Nemeth Memorial Player Assistance Fund, featured four hockey games, a 50/50 draw, silent auctions, mini stick rinks, face painting and a visit from Winnipeg Jets mascot Mick E. Moose.

The fund helps families cover the costs of putting their children through AA Hockey Winnipeg and honours Cooper Nemeth, a former River East Marauders player who was murdered in 2016 at age 17.
