Local athletes bound for Newfoundland as part of Team Manitoba

Date:

Young athletes from Warren, Stonewall, Stony Mountain and Peguis are set to compete on the national stage this month at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Team Manitoba’s roster includes a strong showing from the Interlake and central Manitoba regions, with athletes participating in sports such as softball, baseball, box lacrosse and wrestling.

Maria Riddell and Norman Lacquette of Warren will represent the province in box lacrosse and softball, respectively.

Stonewall is sending several athletes, including Dylan Barnych (athletics), Ashley Schneider (tennis), and Nick Besyk (baseball). Eric Swanson joins the delegation as a coach, while Amber Schneider will serve as team manager for the tennis squad.

Olivia Hagen of Stony Mountain has earned a place on Manitoba’s baseball team and will join teammates from across the province in competition.

From Peguis First Nation, Josiah Govereau will suit up for Manitoba’s softball team, while Savannah Chapman-Cochrane is attending the Games as an apprentice coach for wrestling.

The 2025 Canada Summer Games will run from Aug. 8 to 25 and feature more than 4,000 athletes competing in a wide range of sports at venues throughout the St. John’s area.

These local athletes will be looking to showcase their skill, determination and hometown pride as they take on the nation’s best.
