Warren 67’s drop two as regular season winds down

Date:

The Warren 67’s closed out the final weekend of the regular season with a pair of losses in Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League action, falling 10–2 to the Macdonald Swarm on Friday before an 8–2 setback against the Landmark Blues on Sunday.

Macdonald showed why it finished atop the league standings Friday night in Sanford, scoring five times in the opening period and never looking back. Colton Plaitin led the Swarm with two goals, while Cade McCallum chipped in a goal and two assists. Tyler Van de Velde added three assists as Macdonald rolled to its 29th win of the season.

Justin Braid scored both goals for Warren, finding the net late in the second period and again early in the third. Despite the lopsided scoreline, goaltender Caughner Busch faced a heavy workload, turning aside 56 shots in the loss.

Back in Warren on Sunday afternoon, the 67’s hosted Landmark but fell behind early, trailing 4–0 after the first period. Ethan Rich scored twice for the Blues, while Leif Sigurdson added two third-period goals to seal the win.

Colton Bruce and Carter Boughton provided the offence for Warren, scoring in the second and third periods respectively. Hunter Manning and Scott Mailloux split duties in goal, combining for 46 saves.

The losses leave Warren at 2-24-3 on the season, 11th in the final standings. The 67’s now turn their attention to the postseason, opening a best-of-three play-in series against the Ste Anne Aces beginning Wednesday night at Access Credit Union Arena.
