Brother Fred Fox joined Carman’s Terry Fox Run

Date:

This year’s Terry Fox Run in Carman will go down in community history, with a very special visit from the Canadian hero’s older brother.

Fred Fox arrived in town Sept. 16, one day before the race.

“What a huge honour it was to host Fred Fox and to talk with such a humble and genuinely friendly person,” organizer Linda Sylvester said. “He signed shirts and books and postcards at the Boyne Regional Library and chatted up a storm with all of those who attended.”

After meeting with residents at the library, Fox walked the Carman Community Pathway with a group of locals and ended his afternoon in town at Syl’s Drive Inn for some good food and laughs.

The following day, many arrived at Ryall Park to participate in the run, including a group led by local runners Nate Phillips and Nathan Dyck.

The band Flat Top and Company performed on the Ryall Park stage and entertained the audience until after 3 p.m.

The current total raised for cancer research from the Carman Terry Fox Run is $4,240.25.

“Thank you to everyone who supported the Terry Fox event. We are looking forward to doing it all again in 2024,” Sylvester said.
