Bifrost-Riverton byelection candidates announced, voting date set

Date:

Candidates running in a byelection in the Municipality of Bifrost-Riverton council have been announced and dates set for voting.

Larry Brandt and Kirk Johnston are running for the Ward 1 seat, which was left vacant when former councillor Shawn Magnusson stepped down.

The byelection is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, at the Riverton Curling Club, 175 Reggie Leach Dr. in Riverton, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents who won’t be able to vote on voting day have the option of voting in advance. Advanced voting will take place on Saturday, June 7, at the Riverton Curling Club from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents who can’t vote in person have the option of voting by sealed envelope. They must apply in person, in writing or by email to senior election official (SEO) Jan Larkin: 329 River Road, Box 70, Arborg, MB, R0C 0A0. Email: janlar5001@gmail.com

Those applying for sealed envelope voting in person can do so between June 2 and June 13. Those applying for sealed envelope voting by mail or email can apply between May 23 and June 13. They will receive the package by regular mail or by making other arrangements with the SEO.

Residents should be aware that there could be a Canada Post strike announced this week depending on how negotiations with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers go for a new collective agreement, and that this could possibly affect applications made by post for a sealed envelope.

For more information about the byelection and voting, contact SEO Jan Larkin at (204) 641-0329.
