Wastewater rates increase in Town of Teulon

Date:

Teulon residents will face an increase to wastewater rates that have been approved by the Public Utilities Board.

The current $31 annual service charge will increase to $31.19 for 2025, $31.29 for 2026 and $31.38 in 2027.

The annual wastewater charge per residential equivalency unit (REU) will increase from the current rate of $44.75 to $74.48 in 2025, $89.35 in 2026 and $104.21 in 2027. One REU is the estimated volume of wastewater produced by an average single-family residence.

The initial key fob will cost a refundable $275 charge, and replacement fobs will cost $225.

Emergency tipping by unauthorized haulers will cost $100.

The municipality’s unmetered wastewater-only utility serves 504 customers. The previous wastewater rates weren’t sufficient to cover increasing operating costs.

The full Public Utilities Board order is posted on the Town of Teulon’s website at teulon.ca under “Documents.” Copies are also available by calling the town office at 204-886-2314.

• The town has set up a new PurpleAir Quality Sensor outside at the civic centre. This sensor allows the public to view air quality at any given time, along with air quality of other PurpleAir Quality Sensors throughout North America. This sensor can provide information on how individuals will be affected due to the current air quality. A real-time air quality map is posted on the Town of Teulon website at teulon.ca under the “Residents” and “Emergency Information.”
