Selkirk RCMP arrest three in break and enter attempt

Selkirk RCMP arrested three suspects following a break and enter in progress at a residence in the 300 block of Mercy Street.

At about 7:20 p.m., police responded to reports of two males and one female attempting to enter the home through a window.

Officers arrived immediately and located the three suspects hiding in a vehicle near dumpsters close to the residence. When police approached, one male fled on foot but was arrested shortly after without incident. During the brief pursuit, he discarded a firearm. The other two suspects were taken into custody at the vehicle without incident.

The suspects did not gain entry to the residence, which was occupied at the time by two homeowners.

A 30-year-old woman from Selkirk was released on an undertaking for court.

Brenden Benne, 26, of the RM of St. Andrews, and Devon Obirek, 29, of Selkirk, were remanded into custody.

They face charges of:

  • Break and enter with intent – residence
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Tampering with the serial number of a firearm
  • Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate.
