Dinner and dance to support Lundar ball diamond upgrades

Dinner and dance set for Oct. 4 in Lundar

The Lundar Minor Ball Association is in the midst of upgrading its baseball diamonds — and community members can help support the initiative by attending the Lundar Sportsplex Dinner and Dance fundraiser on Oct. 4.

Association president Blaine Fortin said the four-diamond facility is undergoing a series of refurbishments, including skinning the fields with sand and shale and building new dugouts.

“Our baseball community is pretty amazing coming from a small area,” Fortin said. “We get kids from all over and we want to keep as many kids playing baseball as we possibly can. It’s great to see that our baseball diamonds are getting used.”

As part of the annual fundraising event, the Lundar Sportsplex Dinner and Dance will bring together athletes, volunteers and community members for an evening of great food, lively dancing and memory-making.

The event takes place at the Lundar Curling Rink, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and dinner served at 6 p.m.

Each ticket — $40 for adults and $20 for children under 15 — includes a multi-course roast beef dinner prepared by volunteers, entry into 18 prize draws with cash awards of $40, $150 and $2,000, and access to the dance floor with live music by DJ Chris Hofer.

“The curling rink started this fundraiser many, many years ago, and it’s nice to keep it going as it is a community event at best. It is a fundraiser, but it’s also a night for people to get out and enjoy the night,” Fortin added.

Patrons will also have the option to take their meal to go if they would prefer to eat at home, and they will still be entered into the cash prize draws. Take-out dinners must be picked up at the curling rink on Oct. 4. Details about the to-go option are subject to change and will be shared on social media.

Tickets can be purchased until the day of the event by contacting a board member, including Fortin, at 204-739-3428.
