A place to reflect

A day in advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the City of Morden dedicated a bench in front of the Morden Civic Centre in the orange colour of truth and reconciliation and  bearing the Every Child Matters motto. Morden Mayor Nancy Penner, shown here with other city representatives and members of the Pembina Valley Truth and Action Working Group, reflected on the city’s commitment to the spirit of reconciliation. She sees  the bench as a place for community members to stop and reflect on the impact of the residential school system. “I think it is a powerful symbol that reminds us that the spirit of truth and reconciliation cannot be confined to just one day,” Penner stressed. “I think the bench serves as a daily commitment.” The mayor also highlighted the contribution of Maverick Industries, which made the bench.
