Shot out of a cannon: Five goal first leads to Fishermen triumph

Date:

The Selkirk Fishermen will be happy with the way they’ve shown up through two games of the Capital Region Junior Hockey League season.

The Fishermen took on the Arborg Ice Dawgs on the road Friday and showed no rust after getting the previous week off from game action.

Through 20 minutes, Selkirk led 5-0 after an onslaught of goals that all but buried the Ice Dawgs.

Drake Vermeulen and Deacon Kemp each scored twice in the opening period, while Ryland Schroeder rounded out the five-goal frame.

Connor Bruyere kept the offence rolling in the second with a goal to put Selkirk up six heading into the third.

Ashton Schroeder then added another Fishermen tally in the final frame before the Ice Dawgs ultimately broke the shutout bid of goaltender Marcus Sharpe.

Sharpe finished the night with 26 saves on 28 shots as the Fishermen skated to a 7-2 win to stay perfect through two games.

Selkirk, along with the St. Malo Warriors, now stands as one of only two undefeated teams this season.

The two teams will meet Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

The Fishermen will also host the La Broquerie Habs on Sunday at 3 p.m.
