Stonewall Florist invites the community to bring their holiday spirit — or even their holiday skepticism — to its annual wreath and Grinch tree-making classes this December.
The popular hands-on workshops will run on Dec. 6 and 13, offering two creative opportunities for anyone looking to decorate their home, try a new craft or simply spend a cozy afternoon with friends.
From 1 to 2 p.m., participants can take part in a create-your-own wreath session before the festive DIY Grinch tree workshop takes the spotlight from 2 to 3 p.m.
Each class is led by Tami Couch, owner of Stonewall Florist, who has watched the annual tradition grow steadily as more people look for ways to personalize their seasonal décor. While Couch guides participants through the basics, she encourages everyone to add their own flair.
“This is the perfect opportunity to get people into the festive spirit and inspire them to decorate for Christmas,” Couch said. “People just love these classes as it is such a good way to spend an afternoon with friends.”
For $85 per person, Stonewall Florist provides all the materials needed, including fresh pine and cedar sourced from Canadian growers. A wide selection of ribbons, baubles, pine cones, berries and other embellishments will also be available for those who want to add extra sparkle. To make the atmosphere even warmer, staff will have a spread of tasty treats, hot tea and other beverages so participants can snack while they create.
Couch notes that handmade wreaths and Grinch trees aren’t just fun to build, but practical as well. Once assembled, the decorations can last a couple of months, making them durable enough to brighten homes throughout the holiday season.
“We have everything here to make you — or a family member or friend — smile,” Couch added. “These make great gifts and they are easy to make.”
The classes aren’t just for adults, either. Stonewall Florist welcomes younger creators, and Couch says her youngest participant so far has been 10 years old. The sessions, she says, offer a rare chance for families to sit down together and enjoy a creative winter activity away from screens.
“Come out, have fun and hone your talent of being creative,” she said. “This is a fantastic winter activity that makes everything feel so much more Christmassy.”
Pre-registration is encouraged for the workshops. Those interested can call or text Stonewall Florist at 1-204-461-2172 for more information or to reserve a spot.
