The Teulon Community Development Initiative (TCDI) launched its first fundraiser toward a new canteen facility in Green Acres Park with a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 16.
The event, which drew strong community support, featured pancakes and sausages for breakfast, children’s entertainment by Bounceroos, and a 50/50 draw that saw Ryan Nichol take home $248.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who took the time to come out and support this cause and their many generous donations,” said Jan Lambourne, vice-chair of the TCDI. “We are grateful to the board members and the volunteers who came out and made the morning a success. A special thanks to the Teulon park staff who are always on hand and accessible when needed.”
The TCDI, now operating with a full volunteer board, is incorporated as a non-profit organization registered with the Manitoba government. Its first major goal is to build a fully equipped, government-certified kitchen and serving facility in Green Acres Park.
Lambourne noted that fundraising efforts are intended to mirror the community spirit that helped build Teulon’s cornerstone facilities decades ago.
“Around 60 years ago, Teulon and Rockwood residents and business leaders pulled together to build the Centennial Centre, arena and curling rink,” she said. “Now, 60 years later, it is time to pull together to invest in the next generation of facilities. The TCDI looks forward to partnering with you.”
Organizers say more fundraising events are being planned in the months ahead.
