Fire chief for a day

Date:

A lucky Morden student got to be fire chief for a day Monday. Jonathan Baumgart, a captain and public education officer, awarded the honour to Nicole Pavlenko, a grade one student from Maple Leaf School, who earned it by submitting a home fire escape plan to enter the contest. Morden Fire and Rescue brought their fire truck to the school, spoke on fire safety and gave students a chance to shoot water at targets. It wrapped up with supper at sponsor Boston Pizza. “Any way that we can get into the community and talk about fire prevention and fire safety, that’s our goal,” said Baumgart. “This is a fun way of doing it.”
