Emergency crews respond to the scene of a collision between a southbound semi-trailer and a train at the Highway 13 rail crossing in Carman shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Carman-Dufferin Fire Department Chief Chris Lemke said the driver attempted to brake for the oncoming train but was unable to stop in time due to road conditions. No injuries were reported and the train, hauling approximately 170 grain cars, did not derail. Highway 13 was closed for more than two hours and reopened shortly before 8:30 p.m. RCMP said the semi driver was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for proceeding across a railway crossing when unsafe to do so.
